We’d like to give you an update on this exception and how it affects members who were on statutory leave - if the statutory leave ends, you can start a new lay-off period. You can continue coverage for all benefits for up to three months, or the period highlighted in your contract.

What you need to know:

  • If your employee is on a statutory leave, you must continue their benefits.
  • If a member’s leave ends and they don’t return to work, you can start a new temporary lay-off period. This is only if you maintain the employment relationship.
