MFS Investment Management Canada Limited (MFS) has announced Robert (Bob) Persons will retire effective June 30, 2021. Persons is Co-Portfolio Manager on the MFS Canadian Core Plus Fixed Income fund. He works alongside Joshua Marston, Soami Kohly, and Robert Spector. MFS believe the team remains well-resourced and have no plans to add to the team after Persons retires. Persons will work with the portfolio management team to transition his duties over the next nine months.
Our View
Sun Life’s GRS Investment Solutions team met with MFS to discuss this change. Persons was spending 5-10% of his time on the fund when MFS announced his retirement. His focus was on US bond credit analysis. We believe the remaining members of the portfolio management team have the experience and skillset to assume this responsibility. We do not have any concerns at this time.
