Our new Designed for Health report shows new trends and risks across claim types and plan member demographics. Our research is here to help you face the challenges and changes in order to better support your employees’ health.
About the report
We gathered and analyzed data from over 3 million plan members who have Extended Health Care coverage with Sun Life. Our report looks at some deep claiming behavioural shifts. These new trends are forcing us to think differently about our strategies and products to help address some of the issues and challenges employers are facing.
We’ve seen some important changes in claiming patterns since 2019. Important insights in the report include:
- Mental health practitioner claims within Extended Health Care have sky-rocketed across demographic groups.
- Claims for other practitioners such as physiotherapists and chiropractors have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, especially among middle-aged plan members.
- We’ve seen a rise in drug claims for depression and many chronic diseases among younger plan members.
- The 60+ year-old demographic shows a decrease in drug claims that could potentially signal increased health risks for those with chronic conditions.
