These new benefits under our Family Building program support your Clients with their diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. They can help Clients attract and retain a more diverse employee base. They can also help plan members who need help to start or grow a family and relieve some of the stress and financial costs they might face.

About these new benefits

  • Surrogacy Medical benefit: This benefit will repay plan members for medical expenses they or their eligible spouse/partner incur on behalf of their surrogate, such as lab services, testing and procedures.
  • Surrogacy Non-Medical benefit: This benefit provides coverage for eligible wellness expenses related to their surrogate, such as prenatal fitness classes and vitamins. Sun Life will directly repay plan members or their eligible spouse/dependent for approved expenses they incur on behalf of their surrogate.
  • Adoption benefit: This benefit repays plan members for approved expenses, they or their eligible spouse/partner incur as part of the adoption process, such as legal and agency fees.

About our Family Building program

In January, we announced that Fertility Services can be added to a Clients’ Extended Health Care (EHC) coverage, along with the Surrogacy benefit pilot.

We’re now pleased to make Surrogacy, and Adoption benefits, available to all National Accounts and Sun Solutions Clients. We’ll send a Focus Update to those plan sponsors on September 22.

Marketing materials for Sun Life’s Family Building program are available for you to share with your Clients on Showpad and the Advisor Hub.
