Mental health drug claims increasing among young Canadians
Mental health can be a challenging situation for any organization. Sun Life data shows how young people have been affected since the beginning of the pandemic. Between 2019 and 2021, drug claims to treat mental disorders increased 24% for those aged 30 and under. Mental disorders also account for an increasing proportion of disability claims, especially among younger workers.
These trends were identified using Sun Life data, including those from Sun Life’s new Designed for Health report. The report highlights trends impacting long-term disability claims across Sun Life’s plan member base. This can help you advise your Clients on the actions they can take to support their employees.
These trends and the importance of access to mental health care were recently highlighted in a Sun Life press release. In this press release, Marie-Chantal Côté, Senior Vice-President, Group Benefits, Sun Life explains how “from new programs and partnerships to digital tools and resources, we are committed to tackling the mental health crisis head on.”
