To address these needs and support your plan members, we’re pleased to announce a new pilot program in partership with Best Doctors, powered by Teladoc Health. Starting April 2021, we’re piloting 50 long-term disability (LTD) claims using Teladoc Health’s Mental Health Disability Management (MHDM) program. This pilot will run until December 2021.

What is Teladoc Health’s Mental Health Disability Management program?

Teladoc Health’s comprehensive program:

  • provides two expert mental health assessments, by a psychologist, to clarify and identify impairments impacting return to work, and a psychiatrist to optimize medical interventions;
  • provides treatment recommendations that are return-to-work focused;
  • accelerates access to therapy with a psychologist through 12 virtual psychotherapy sessions, through video-conference;
  • works with the employee and Sun Life case manager to improve function and facilitate return to work outcomes.

The main goals of this pilot project are to measure how Teladoc Health’s program can:

  • provide valuable mental health support to plan members on mental health disability claims;
  • improve recovery and return to work rates for plan members on mental health disability claims;
  • reduce disability durations and costs associated with mental health disability claims for plan sponsors and Sun Life.

How will this pilot affect plan members?

We’re currently offering this pilot program to 50 plan members who are on LTD for various mental health issues, and who’ve been off work for an extended period of time. We’re randomly selecting claims to be part of the pilot, meaning the pilot may or may not impact your plan members.

Program Results

We’ll measure the impact of the program on the LTD claims in the pilot. We expect to have results from this pilot program by the end of 2021, or early 2022.
