How OMS can protect your Clients’ plan

Two types of controls are available. Clients can add them individually or together:

  • Drug supply limit: for plan members who are new to opioids, the program limits the first fill to no more than a 7-day supply. It can also help the plan member switch to a short-acting opioid if needed. This helps lower the risk of side effects and reduces the risk of long-term opioid use.
  • Daily dose limit: for plan members who need opioid medication, this program applies a daily dose limit. This helps to reduce opioid misuse.

Helping Clients to promote the safe use of opioids can prevent excess use. The OMS aims to reduce the risk of health issues and costs related to opioid misuse. There’s no added cost for Clients to include OMS with their drug plan.

We’ll send this Focus Update to plan sponsors with drug coverage on October 19, 2023.
