Our Canadian head office
Sun Life is proud to call the economically-thriving, vibrant community of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario home to our Canadian head office. We've been part of the community for more than a century and are looking forward to contributing to, and being a part of this growing region for decades to come.
Sun Life contributes to the local economy as one of the top 5 major employers1 in the region, with approximately 3,500 employees — more than 40% of our employee base in Canada. In addition, more than 200 advisors provide financial planning support across the region. Sun Life also provides new graduates with exciting employment opportunities.
Building on a 100-year partnership with the community
With a rich 100-year history in Kitchener-Waterloo, we’re proud of our reputation not only as an employer, but also as a caring partner in the community. Our deep roots in the region are the foundation of our commitment to the residents, business community, and social and cultural landscape of Kitchener-Waterloo.
Our philanthropic donations and sponsorships include: The Kitchener Rangers, Jazz Fest, Busker Fest, Grand River Hospital, Wilfrid Laurier University, The University of Waterloo and the YMCA Kitchener-Waterloo. In addition, employees and advisors organize annual coat, toy and food drives to give back to the less fortunate during the holiday season.
To help manage our environmental footprint in the KW region, Sun Life became an Observing Organization in the Regional Carbon Initiative (run by the not-for-profit Sustainable Waterloo Region) and a member of TravelWise, a joint program of Sustainable Waterloo Region and the Region of Waterloo.
Building on our heritage
In 2012, Sun Life celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Canadian head office building, located on King Street, right on the border of the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. We continue to maintain and improve our iconic building to create a safe, pleasant working environment. This includes upgrades to our elevators, our parking spaces and making sure that we are fully capable of serving our clients in the event of a power outage.
