At Sun Life, we care about what matters most. As part of our commitment to social, environmental and financial sustainability, we actively support the communities where we live and work by helping build a positive and healthy environment for our Clients, Employees, advisors and their neighbours.

Each year, our Employees and advisors volunteer thousands of hours or make personal financial contributions to their favourite charitable organizations, advancing our vision of building sustainable, healthier communities for life.

Matching Gifts program

In support of our Employee giving, Sun Life’s Matching Gifts program matches eligible donations to registered Canadian charities up to $500 per Employee or advisor each year.

Teams for Health program

Sun Life’s Teams for Health program supports Employees and advisors who participate in physically active events to raise money for health-related charities across Canada. Sun Life pays the registration fee or minimum personal donation required to participate in the event, up to $100 per person. In 2016, more than 2,600 Employees and advisors participated in various Teams for Health initiatives.

Volunteer program

Sun Life’s Volunteer program recognizes the efforts of Employees and advisors who volunteer at least 25 hours each year for a registered Canadian charity of their choice. Those who qualify receive $500 each for their charity. In 2016, our Employees and advisors volunteered more than 40,000 hours of their personal time to local charities and organizations.

Each year, Sun Life recognizes the extraordinary community involvement of our volunteer leaders through the Sun Life National Volunteer of the Year awards. The Volunteer of the Year receives $10,000 for his or her charity of choice and the 3 finalists receive $3,000 each for their selected charities. We are proud to recognize Martha Palaroan as our 2015 National Volunteer of the Year, along with finalists Rahim Bhatia, Tonya Veltman and Suzanne Morin.
