President, Sun Life Financial Quebec

Robert Dumas is Sun Life Financial’s Quebec President. His mission in this role is to sustain the company’s recent success in Quebec and drive accelerated growth in its businesses. Mr. Dumas also oversees activities supporting Sun Life Financial’s involvement in the community.

A recognized expert in the pension world, Robert Dumas has been leading teams and directing business strategies in Sun Life Financial’s Group Retirement Services and Group Benefits areas in Quebec since 2012. He also led the creation and go-to-market process of Sun Life Financial’s VRSP, a new workplace savings plan for employees of small and medium-sized businesses in Quebec.

He joined the company’s Quebec leadership team after a notable 28-year career with Mercer, where as Senior Partner Group Member he managed and developed the Retirement, Risk and Finance practice for Canada and Latin America. He combines close to 30 years of experience with deep knowledge of the needs and expectations of Quebec businesses.

Mr. Dumas holds a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from Laval University and is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

In February 2016, Finance et Investissement named Mr. Dumas to one of the first five positions on its annual ranking of the Top 25 in Quebec’s financial industry.

He is chairman of the board of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum Foundation and a board member of Dans la rue, an organization that provides assistance to homeless youth and youth at risk and Centraide. He has chaired the company’s annual Centraide campaign since 2013.
