In Q1 2025, Global Alpha announced that Tracy Li, Portfolio Manager (PM) of the Global Alpha Global Small Cap Equity fund decided to leave the firm for personal reasons. Li joined the firm as an intern in 2017 and became an analyst in 2018, covering the Financials and Information Technology (IT) sectors for the Asia region. Li was promoted to PM in 2024.
Qing Ji (PM) will take over Li’s responsibilities. Ji has over 17 years of experience with the firm and currently covers the Health Care, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors for the Asia region. In addition, Sain Godil and Robert Beauregard, both existing PMs on the strategy, will provide support to Ji. Godil has over 15 years of experience with the firm and oversees coverage for the Financials sector. Beauregard, along with his PM responsibilities and coverage for the IT sector, is Chief Investment Officer and founded the firm in 2008.
On May 5, 2025, Global Alpha hired Asim Hussain as a Senior Equity Analyst as a replacement for Li. Hussain has over 12 years of experience working for various investment managers as an analyst and PM with a primary focus on global equities. Hussain’s mandate will be to cover the Asian developed markets, focusing on Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, and the IT, Health Care and Industrials sectors. Hussain is fluent in Japanese and previously worked for five years in Japan.
With this addition the developed markets investment team is comprised of five PMs responsible for buy and sell decisions and supported by three analysts. The firm uses a double coverage (i.e. two people) structure at both the regional and sector levels, ensuring continuity in responsibilities.
GRS Investment Solutions team view
We are comfortable with the announced changes to the Global Alpha Global Small Cap Equity team. Tracy Li had only been promoted to PM in 2024 and her replacement, Asim Hussain, has similar experience and qualifications. Qing Ji remains the most experienced and longest-tenured PM covering Asia and provides continuity. Global Alpha’s consensus-based approach involves the five PMs jointly making investment decisions and we don’t expect the process or strategy to change.
We will continue to evaluate these changes and provide further updates if necessary.
