The psychological well-being of employees is a major factor in overall employee health, employee retention/attraction, and workplace culture. Mental health issues are a leading driver of Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims. 30% of approved LTD claims are connected to mental illness. Our goal is to provide you with solutions that help you refine your mental health strategy. One solution available to you is our new and enhanced Workplace Mental Health Risk Assessment (WMHRA).

Our WMHRA has been helping employers better understand how they align with the Canadian National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. The tool allows you to take a preventative and proactive approach to the mental well-being of your employees. It also helps you understand how your organization fares against psychosocial risk factors.

Sun Life’s WMHRA is one of the most complete assessments of its kind available on the market. Facilitated through focus groups, the data helps to identify strengths and risk areas. Opportunities for targeted action and areas of priority will be identified. These focus groups are facilitated by our expert Organizational Health Consultants and can be conducted in-person or virtually.

We recently completed a revamp of this assessment tool to ensure that it stays current and relevant to today’s workplaces. We have evolved our WMHRA to:

  • incorporate a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lens,
  • add new questions that reflect the growing importance of workload management and work-life balance, and
  • update how work-life balance is measured and meeting the different needs of employees (for example: flexible schedules, opportunities to work hybrid or remotely, technology / equipment provided, stress management, and support services such as childcare).

As part of prioritizing mental health in your workplace, we encourage you to consider taking our WMHRA. The assessment will allow you to gain insights into any risks present. Our post-assessment approach is also customized to your exact needs. For more details about our WMHRA, please contact your Sun Life Group Benefits representative.
