Have questions about connecting with Sun Life on Alexa? Here are some answers.

Getting started:

On your smartphone

1. Download the Alexa app from Google Play or the App Store.

2. Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
3. Choose Skills & Games in the Alexa app, and search for Sun Life.
4. Click Enable to use and follow the prompts.

On amazon.ca

1. Visit the Sun Life skill page on amazon.ca.
2. Click Enable and follow the prompts.

The Sun Life skill is Canadian and you must have an amazon.ca account to use it.

If you have an amazon.com account, you can call Amazon help at 1-888-280-4331 to change your account preferences. Otherwise create a new amazon.ca account

We’ve made it easier to connect your Sun Life account with Alexa.

All you need to do is open the my Sun Life mobile app and navigate to the More menu. Under Devices, click on “Link Alexa” and go from there.

OR, you can follow these steps:

1. Download Alexa app from Google Play or the App Store.

2. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone.
3. Choose Skills & Games in the Alexa app, and search for Sun Life.
4. Click Enable to use. If you’re a Sun Life plan member, you can now link your account.

1. Choose I am a Client.
2. Enter your Sun Life sign-in ID and password (which is the same as your mysunlife.ca login details).
3. Choose Connect.
4. Create a 4-digit voice security PIN.

5. We will send a confirmation email to your preferred Sun Life email, with the subject line “Your Sun Life account has been successfully linked to Alexa”.

After that, you’re all set! To get started, say “Alexa, open Sun Life.”

  1. In your Alexa app, go to your Skills & Games.
  2. Choose the Sun Life skill. 
  3. Pick Settings and next to Account linking, you will see “Linked”. 

The Sun Life skill is available in both English and French.

You can get the below details, as related to your workplace plan:

  • The remaining balance of your Health Spending Account (HSA) and Personal Spending Account (PSA).
  • Coverage details for select health-care providers and services covered under your plan.
  • Status updates of recent claims.
  • A wide range of health-care providers offering in-person or virtual visits - using the Lumino Provider Search tool.
  • Your workplace investment balances and performance, and more.

Yes. If you have a smartphone, you can talk to Ella through the Sun Life skill on the Alexa app.

To get more details, follow these steps to link your account:

Open the my Sun Life mobile app and navigate to the More menu. Under Devices, click on “Link Alexa” and go from there.

Security/PIN related questions:

  • Amazon doesn’t have access to Sun Life account credentials.
  • You use your PIN to get account details.
  • Alexa devices mask and delete your transaction history and voice recordings as you request your Sun Life account details. 

When you use the Sun Life skill, Amazon shares the content of your requests with Sun Life. Please view Sun Life’s Legal, privacy, security and fraud information. Your use of the Alexa service is subject to the Alexa Terms of Use

Your voice security PIN is an extra layer of protection that prevents other people from accessing your Sun Life account details.

You’ll need to say your 4-digit PIN to get your account details. This PIN is unique to you. It is separate from your mysunlife.ca login credentials and PIN codes used for other accounts and services.

Please do not share this PIN with anyone else as it gives you access to details that may be confidential. Please use caution when saying your PIN as people nearby may overhear you.

To reset your PIN, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Disable and re-enable the Sun Life skill within the Amazon mobile app.
  2. Sign in with your Sun Life ID and password.
  3. Create your new PIN.

If you have forgotten your Sun Life login password, please follow this link to reset your password.

If you get locked out of your Sun Life account, please give us a call at 1-877-SUN-LIFE (1-877-786-5433).

Access-related questions:

If you’re not a Sun Life plan member, you can still use the Lumino Provider Search feature as long as you are within Canada. Just say “Alexa, ask Sun Life to find me a provider.”

Yes, you need to link these accounts and set your 4-digit voice security PIN to get your account details.

Some plans or plan sponsors (employers) don’t allow their members to get their Sun Life account details on voice.

You can still use the Lumino Provider Search feature on the Sun Life skill. Just say “Alexa, ask Sun Life to find me a provider.”

Sun Life account related questions

You can hear the remaining balance, deductible, coverage limit and percentage covered, for you and your dependents (if any).

You can get your coverage details for lenses, contacts, frames and optometrists. Details include balance, limit, percent covered and deductible. You can also hear these details for your dependents. Right now we don't surface coverage related to eye exams or ophthalmologists.

You can find out when you’re eligible for your next dental check up. You can also obtain coverage details such as the percentage covered and limits for common dental procedures like scaling, fluoride, polishing, bitewing x-rays and dental examination.

Depending on your plan, you may have to submit a claim for each dependent before they appear on your account.

If you can see your dependents on mysunlife.ca and on the my Sun Life mobile app, try saying the name again when checking your coverage.

We are always improving and working on our ability to recognize names on voice.

You can find out if your claim is still in process or complete.

If your claim is complete, you can find out when it was complete and how much was paid. You can only get details about claims you submitted within the last 30 days.

To get payment details, please visit mysunlife.ca. Then scroll down to Benefits centre located on the navigation menu found on the right-hand side.

Depending on your plan set-up, you can check your total workplace plan balances and rates of return. You can also check each of your workplace product balances.

Lumino Provider Search

Lumino Provider Search is a tool that makes it easier and more convenient for you to find health-care providers. Providers are rated by other Sun Life plan members and offer in-person or virtual visits.

When you find your provider, we can send you their contact by text. In some cases, you can also request an appointment with your selected or favourite provider.

Lumino Provider Search is also on the my Sun Life mobile app and on sunlife.ca.

You can search for:

  • Dentists,
  • Orthodontists,
  • Acupuncturists,
  • Chiropodists,
  • Chiropractors,
  • Massage therapists,
  • Naturopaths,
  • Osteopaths,
  • Physiotherapists,
  • Podiatrists,
  • Psychologists,
  • Ophthalmologists,
  • Optometrists,
  • Optical Stores and
  • Pharmacies.

You can also sort the providers by location, cost and ratings. You can even filter to find providers who offer in-person or virtual visits.

We can send you the provider contact by text. In some cases, you can also request an appointment with your selected or favourite provider.

Yes, anyone can use the Lumino Provider Search tool, regardless of whether they’re a Sun Life plan member.

Everyone across Canada can use it to help them find the health-care provider(s) they need. Just say “Alexa, ask Sun Life to find me a provider.”

Eligible Sun Life plan members need to link their Sun Life account with Alexa. Once linked, they need to authenticate using their 4-digit voice security PIN to get their account details.
