How to check your benefits on Alexa

Use Alexa to check your workplace benefits information

If you don’t already have a my Sun Life account, register here first.

  1. First, make sure you have enabled the Sun Life skill from the my Sun life mobile app or from within the Alexa app.
  2. Open the Sun Life skill by saying, “Alexa, open Sun Life.”
  3. You’ll need to say your 4-digit voice security PIN. Please use caution when saying your PIN, as people nearby may overhear you.
  4. Once you’re logged in to Sun Life, you will be able to check your benefit details and/or the status of your claim. You can also set up a reminder to let you know when you become eligible for your routine dental check-up.
    • Coverage details are available for:
      • Prescription glasses,
      • Contact lenses,
      • Optometry,
      • Massage therapy,
      • Physiotherapy,
      • Chiropractic services,
      • Psychological services, and
      • common dental procedures.
    • For example, you can ask, “Am I covered for Contact Lenses?”
    • Get your coverage details, such as remaining balance, limit, percentage covered or deductible. As you’re checking your details, we’ll also notify you if your current benefit period is ending in the next three months.
    • Check the status of your recent medical and dental claims.
      • You can ask, “What is the status of my recent claims?”
    • Check your Health Spending Account (HSA) and Personal Spending Account (PSA) balances.
      • You can ask, “Can you check my HSA balance?"
    • Set up a reminder for the date you become eligible for your next dental check up.
      • You can say, “When can I go for my routine dental check up?”
  5. Now, you can also submit a claim for massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic or psychologist visits.
    • You can say, "Submit a claim," or "Submit my massage claim".
    • You can submit applicable claims for yourself (or for other covered family members) with providers in your claims history or favourites list.
    • We'll take you through a step-by-step process to get claim details, to process the request and notify you in real time if the claim is paid or being reviewed.
    • There will also be an option available to use your Health Spending Account (HSA) balance, if applicable, to cover any unpaid claim amount.
