Genetic test applications - Rules for Advisors

Clients’ genetic information is protected under Bill S-201. Please do not discuss genetic tests with Clients or document the results of any genetic tests. This is especially important when asking Clients about their personal medical history or their family history.

Although Clients are required to disclose medical tests completed in the last 5 years, we do not require genetic test results. We can still ask about family history and rate accordingly, but we don’t ask specifically about genetic testing.

There is a voluntary consent form (4889) that allows Clients to share genetic test information if they wish. This can be beneficial if they feel that there may be information that’s favourable to our decision.
