Sun Life cares about protecting our client’s personal information. With two-step verification, signing in might look a little different, but it will help keep your account, and your plan member’s information protected.

What it means for you

Sun Life is serious about protecting personal data. Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security that will help prevent someone else from getting into your account to access sensitive business and personal information. Sun Life will verify your identity with a verification code when we consider it necessary.

How it works

It doesn’t take long to set up:

  • You’ll start by adding a phone number or work email address.
  • You can choose to have the verification code sent by text message, phone call or email.
  • To confirm your identity, you may be asked for a one-time verification code during sign-in. It may be because you're signing in with an unfamiliar browser.
  • You can elect to have this step included every time you sign in.
  • Never give anyone else your verification code.

Can I opt out of Two-Step Verification?

No. At Sun Life we are dedicated to protecting your data. Two-step verification provides an added layer of security to help keep your account safe from unauthorized users in case your password is ever compromised.

Why is it a good idea to add multiple ways to authenticate?

If you have multiple numbers or emails, adding more ways to verify yourself now will save you time later. You can have any combination of phone numbers and email addresses up to four.

What if I don’t see an email (with the verification code) from Sun Life?

If you don’t see an email from security_alerts@sunlife.com in your inbox with the verification code, check your junk and spam folders. If you still don’t see the email, try turning off your VPN and request a new verification code.

How is Sun Life using the phone number(s) and work email address(es) that I provided for two-step verification?

Your phone number(s) and email address(es) will be used only to provide you with your one-time verification code during the two-step verification process. The contact information you provide us with won’t be used for any other communication or marketing purpose.

Will I need to verify my identity every time I sign in?

When you set up two-step verification, you’ll be able to choose between two options for receiving a one-time verification code: only when Sun Life requires it or every time you sign in.

If you choose to receive a code only when we need to confirm your identity, we’ll still ask you to complete verification the first time you sign in. After that, you’ll be asked to receive a code only if we notice something’s changed.
