Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether this investment news has any implications for the investment option available within their plans. Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada purchases units of the fund listed below. It is established as a segregated fund under the Insurance Companies Act (Canada).
Effective January 1, 2022, Peter Lampert will become lead portfolio manager (PM) of the Mawer International Equity fund (the Fund). David Ragan, current lead PM, will continue as co-manager of the Fund. Lampert has been on the International Equity team since he joined the firm as an analyst in 2008. In addition, Mawer appointed him co-manager of the Fund in 2015.
Ragan has been the lead PM on the Fund for over 15 years. His decision to come off as lead PM was made in discussion with Lampert, Jim Hall, Chair, PM, and Paul Moroz, CIO. Ragan’s areas of focus will remain the same, but he’ll no longer have final decision-making power.
Sun Life GRS Investment Solutions’ view
We have no material concerns with this change. This is because both Lampert and Ragan will continue to actively manage the Fund going forward. Mawer identified Lampert as the successor to the Fund a long time ago. Mawer haven’t officially stated that Ragan may be looking to retire. However, we suspect he might be since he gave up his lead PM duties. We continue to monitor the Fund and will provide updates as needed.
