Why we’ve made this change

We received requests from plan members to consider these alternatives. After engaging our medical consultants, we decided that offering these additional options was a good idea. It reduces the need to vape or smoke and is better for patients, especially those with limited lung function.

We’re committed to providing you and your employees with the resources needed to improve plan members health. We feel these new changes to our policy will significantly improve the ability for your employees to manage their health and well-being.

Reimbursement process

For the Optional Medical Cannabis benefit, plan members must be approved for Medical Cannabis through the prior authorization process.

This change also applies to expenses reimbursed through the Health Spending Account. Plan members must have a physician's prescription and the cannabis must be dispensed by a Health Canada authorised licensed producer.
