Since September 15, 2017, pharmacists have given detailed invoices to their patients in the pharmacy. However, they challenged this requirement when it came to sending claims to insurers.

With this new ruling, pharmacists must now submit detailed drug costs to insurers. In the next few months, we’ll be working with our pharmacy benefit manager to successfully implement these changes.

We don’t expect this ruling to impact the costs of private plans in the short term. Sun Life is satisfied with the decision, as it’s a step in the right direction to improve management of private drug plan costs in Quebec. It confirms the government's intention to promote transparency in drug costs.
