Sun Life Dunk for Diabetes is an innovative type 2 diabetes awareness and prevention program. We’re encouraging healthy habits through basketball-inspired fitness challenges, nutrition education, encouragement from Raptors players and Sun Life advisors, and exciting Raptors prizes.
In 2018-2019, Sun Life Dunk for Diabetes will operate at 50 Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada locations across the country. Our engaging grassroots program is composed of three key components.
Just like the NBA draft, participants learn about the program through an exciting “draft” party. Surrounded by Raptors personalities, all participants receive a draft hat and sign a “contract” signifying their commitment to healthy living.
Each week at their local Boys & Girls Club, participants learn about the weekly challenge that can earn them a Raptors-related prize! They also get healthy snacks, join in fun activities and learn about diabetes.
Based on challenge metrics, the top participants from each participating Boys & Girls Club will join Toronto Raptors and NBA Legends to celebrate their dedication to the program, hard work and success.
We are proud supporters of the MLSE LaunchPad, where youth facing barriers can use sports to recognize and reach their potential.
To reflect our commitment to the Sun Life-sponsored Healthy Me, Healthy Community program and the Sun Life Financial Nutrition Hub, Sun Life will donate $1,000 for each slam-dunk by a Raptors player during 2018-19 regular-season home games, up to a maximum of $200,000. Look for details as the Raptors season progresses!
Sun Life is committed to the prevention of diabetes and its related complications.
We support diabetes programs that encourage and help with diabetes prevention, make Canadians aware of this disease, further innovative advances in diabetes research and provide specialized care.
