Sun One Year Term - a short-term solution if the exercise period is quickly approaching or other employment and benefits are expected within one year; it can be converted to Sun Lifetime Alternative before the coverage expires in one year. This plan is convertible up to the end of year but not renewable. The rates below are blended and apply to both non-smoker and smoker.

To calculate the premium, always use the formula:

  • rate x death benefit units + policy fee = annual premium

            The policy fee = $100

Sample premium calculation for $15,000 of coverage, male non-smoker, age 45:

1. Find age 45 on chart - the rate per thousand is 5.68

           Multiply 5.68 x 15 = $85.20
            Add policy fee = $100.00
            Total annual premium = $185.20

2. To find out the monthly pre-authorized chequing (PAC) premium:

            Multiply $185.20 x 0.09 = $16.67
