Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is an annual national public education campaign coordinated by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) designed to help open the eyes of Canadians to the reality of mental illness. With mental health as a focus this week, read on to find out more about what we’re doing at Sun Life to support our commitment to mental health awareness.

New Bright Paper – “Mental Health in the Workplace – a little training goes a long way”

 “Mental Health in the Workplace – a little training goes a long way”, shows how mental health training for managers can be a great first step to improving mental health in an organization and shares case study examples of the training in action. This new Bright Paper will be available at the end of October.

Benefits Canada 2014 Mental Health Summit

The Benefits Canada 2014 Mental Health Summit in November and December will explore different perspectives on mental health and provide practical tips to improve on the psychological health of organizations. Dr. Pelletier will be presenting ‘What’s the Employer’s Part in a Successful Return to Work?’ in Toronto, Michèle Parent, AVP, Group Life and Disability and Carmen Bellows, Senior Mental Health Consultant Western Region, will present respectively at the Montreal and Vancouver events.

The session focuses on employees returning to work after an absence for mental health reasons and the support they require to ensure a healthy transition back into the workplace.
