Diabetes: Are you at risk?

Are you at risk of having pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes? Now you can find out by completing “The Canadian diabetes risk questionnaire.”

By answering simple questions in the CANRISK questionnaire about your age, weight, level of physical activity and diet, you will be assigned a score that indicates your level of risk for developing the disease.

Helpful tips are also interspersed throughout the questionnaire, such as recommendations to aim to walk for an average of 30 minutes per day and to eat 7 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables.

The questionnaire is intended primarily for adults aged 40 to 74 years, although it may be useful for younger persons with apparent risk factors, such as being overweight or having a strong family history of the disease.

While your score is not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis, if it indicates you’re at risk, you should consider discussing your results with a health care practitioner.
