What is Care at Home?
Care at Home insurance provides you with the extra support you may need to stay in the comfort of your own home as you get older and experience declining health, reduced mobility, an illness or an accident.
Why do you need Care at Home?
Designed for Canadians aged 50+ (between 50 and 74 at the time of application), Care at Home works as a supplement to provincial healthcare and other personal health insurance benefits. It fills an important gap in health insurance by covering the cost of certain in-home healthcare and home conversion expenses such as help with meal preparation, housework, transportation and home safety upgrades, so you can continue to live safely and securely in your own home without having to dip into your savings.
If you’re within 60 days of leaving your employer, you can automatically qualify with no medical questions asked at the time of application. After 60 days you can still qualify by answering some simple health questions.4
Care at Home provides a choice of 3 coverage options:
Home care benefit
- Covers the services of a nurse in your home, food preparation, managing medication, transportation and housekeeping services
- $3,000 annual maximum, $15,000 lifetime maximum 2
Home conversion benefit
- Helps to cover the cost of home mobility equipment such as wheelchair ramps, grab bars and walk-in bathtub conversions
- Option of $3,000 or $5,000 lifetime maximum
- Provides a one-time, lump-sum payment in the event of an accidental fracture
