Effective immediately, we have re-added PH&N Balanced Pension Trust to our DC and DB Core investment platform marketed lists. We had removed the Fund from the marketed lists in May 2017.

Why we’re making the change

At the time, we were consolidating the traditional balanced fund category on our platform. This was due to the growth of target date funds, in particular. However, PH&N has made several enhancements to this fund over time. The enhancements include increased diversification across asset classes, geography, and strategies. There is also better use of RBC Global Asset Management’s global investment capabilities.

About PH&N Balanced Pension Trust Fund

The Fund seeks to provide long-term capital growth and income. It does this by investing primarily in a well-diversified, balanced portfolio of Canadian common stocks, bonds and money market securities. The fund also holds a portion of its assets in foreign common stocks, bonds, and real estate.

Phillips Hager & North Investment Management (PH&N) is a division of RBC Global Asset Management Inc. RBC Global Asset Management Inc. is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) RBC Global Asset Management Inc. has $115 billion in assets under management.

Do you need to take action?

This change does not affect plan sponsors and plan members. As such, they do not need to take any action. Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether the PH&N Balanced Pension Trust would be a suitable addition to their lineup.
