Why are group benefits important to me?
I'm early in my career (click to see other life stages)

At this stage of life - young, healthy, happy - you likely don't need to use your group benefit plan much. But don't underestimate how critically important your coverage really is. It's all about protecting your health and your future just in case one of those "what if" life events occur.

You wouldn't drive a car or live in a home without insurance - so it just makes sense to protect your overall health. And what surprises many people is that your provincial health plan won't cover all the medical costs associated with an unexpected illness or accident. And now that you're working, you have an income and career to protect, too, so financial coverage like life and disability insurance becomes important.

Life

Life insurance pays a tax-free, lump-sum benefit to your beneficiary in the event of your death. It can give your family the financial protection it needs by reducing the impact of lost income. A life insurance benefit can be used in the way your family thinks best - to pay down a mortgage or other debt, pay tuition for your kids, or just cover ongoing day-to-day expenses.

That’s why protecting your income is vital, especially when you have others depending on you. That’s what long-term disability insurance is all about. It provides an ongoing stream of income during your disability, so the expenses that need to be covered continue to be covered. And it lets you focus your mind on something just as critical – restoring your health. These 3 real plan stories illustrate the value of income protection.
