myth: Financial planning is all about numbers.
truth: No, it's about setting goals and enjoying your life. But knowing the numbers can make it happen.

Tips for setting goals

Know that goal setting isn't about what you should do, it's about what you want to do and ensuring you get to do it.

  • Believe that what you want is important - important enough to talk about it with your family and friends, to write it down, and to work toward it.
  • Envision where you'd like to be in say 10 years - once you know what you want, you can work on how to get there.
  • It's about dreams, not numbers - for now, focus on your goal, not what it will cost.
