Key findings

Here are a few key findings from the 2nd Sun Life Canadian UnretirementTM Index:

Working Canadians’ are feeling slightly more confident about retirement, despite the recent economic downturn. But things aren’t looking brighter for working Americans, whose confidence about retirement is lower.

Canadians showed resolve and character during the financial crisis, with many reducing their debt and cutting spending.

At an average age of 51, saving for retirement becomes the #1 financial priority of Canadians, overtaking paying for housing.

One in five men and women say the main reason they’ll be working past age 65 is they need to. Twice as many men as women say the main reason they’ll be working past 65 is they want to.
