Manager Mental Health Training –new e-learning modules now available!

We are delighted to offer these modules for use by your managers as a new feature of your disability plan.

According to Conference Board of Canada research1, one of the most effective areas of focus to improve support for mental health issues in the workplace is in front-line manager training. To support you in this area, we have developed a series of mental health manager e-learning modules.

The training consists of seven on-line modules which will help your people managers:

  • Identify potential mental health issues in the workplace
  • Communicate effectively – learning through role play exercises
  • Help build a healthy environment
  • Identify and address stigma
  • Understand the components of a safe return to work program.

In 20132, Sun Life co-sponsored research undertaken by the Conference Board of Canada. This research revealed that most managers are receptive to more training and support related to effective disability management. Training on how to recognize mental health issues in employees was the highest ranked area, cited by 34 per cent of managers.

Previous Conference Board of Canada research conducted in 20111 found that employees often do not discuss mental health issues with their supervisors because they believe such effort would be futile. Having better trained managers and reduced stigma can help overcome this.

The modules can be accessed 24/7 and completed all at once or over a period of time. A manager can go back and refresh on any of the modules at any time too.
