IFCA recognizes Sun Life for creativity, innovation and design

Every year, the Insurance and Financial Communicators Association (IFCA) seeks to acknowledge the best in communications and marketing within the financial services industry. Awards are handed out based on creativity, writing, design and effectiveness, in 12 categories.

Over the past few years, Sun Life Financial has participated in the IFCA Awards competition and has consistently received recognition for our innovative and creative ways of delivering value to you and your plan members. For an overview of last year’s results, see Focus Update #243.

For the 2011 competition, Sun Life has received 21 awards, including:

  •  3 best of shows (the highest designation)
  • 7 awards of excellence
  • 10 honourable mentions

The Group Benefits Marketing and Communications area received 9 awards, including 2 best of shows and 2 awards of excellence. Here are some highlights of our successes:

  • Thought leadership: Value and sustainability – Best of Show for Creative Articles

    IFCA recognized Sun Life’s advertorial “Value for Private Payors and Plan Sponsors; Opportunities above and below the 49th Parallel”. This two part series begins by taking a close look at the context of Canada's private healthcare environment by exposing an anticipated cost shift to private payers in the next decade. The discussion-style article continues with a compare/contrast to the health care strategies of the US that have been sustainable and even successful. The audience is led to consider whether any of these approaches could be implemented to the north. Such insight and inspiration positions Sun Life as a 'thought leader' and at the forefront of progressive Canadian insurance providers.   • Disability Management Story – Best of Show for Product Kits of Sales Promotion Materials

    The Group Benefits area was awarded for creating attractive educational and marketing materials, as well as organizing a road show to communicate the benefits of our disability products and how our story stands out from our competition. Learn more about our “Work is Healthy” philosophy.
  • Thanks a million! E-claims celebration campaign – Award of Excellence for Internally Developed Design

    In 2001, we launched the industry’s first plan member e-claim capability and we've been enhancing it ever since. As communicated to you in a Focus Update last year, Sun Life recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary of providing e-claims to your plan members. Around the same time, we also reached the one millionth e-claim received for the year. This celebration campaign involving many communications to you, your plan members and our own Sun Life plan members, earned an award of excellence from the IFCA. Thank you to you and your members for embracing the e-claims technology and for helping Sun Life strengthen our position at the forefront of innovation and superior online customer experience.
