Imagine the convenience of looking up disability claim status online, with virtually no more searching through files for the last update on a claim. Having claim information available in real time – at the touch of a keyboard button.

With the launch of Sun Life’s Group Benefits Absence and Disability online services, that convenience will soon be here!

New capabilities

Starting in mid-November 2011, employers will get access to an online claim status tool allowing them to look up and view real time claim information about their absent employees, including projected return-to-work dates. 

Future enhancements

In early 2012, employers will also be able to submit Short- and Long-Term Disability claim statements, report Salary Continuance absences online, and to run, export and/or print their own Claim Management reports.

Once online submission is enabled, Sun Life will continue to accept paper plan sponsor claim statements, but we will encourage the use of online services to reduce overall paper use and to minimize impact on everyone’s resources.

Setting up access 

Employers will need to be set up with access IDs for the new Group Benefits Absence and Disability online services site. Sun Life will reach out to individuals at each organization to get the necessary information, and proceed with the set-up. Employers can expect to hear from us via email starting November 2011 and through early 2012.

At this time, employees (plan members) are not impacted by these enhancements.

Helpful tutorial available

An online tutorial will be available on the website at launch, and will take users through the general steps to view claim status online.  Its aim is to provide users with the required information to get the most out of this valuable new service.
