Suicide clause to be removed from Basic Life contracts

If you have a Basic Life benefit as part of your group benefits plan, the following wording will be automatically removed from the contract, effective March 1, 2014.

Suicide If you have any coverage that required proof of good health and that has been in effect for less than 2 years, we will not pay benefits for these amounts if death is by suicide, while sane or insane. However, we will refund all applicable Life coverage premiums that have been paid.

This same suicide exclusion will remain in the contract wording for the optional life benefits if you have those as part of your plan.

You will see the amended contract wording the next time you submit any plan design changes on or after March 1, 2014 that requires you to receive a new copy of your benefits contract.  Please share the attached communication with your plan members to let them know about the upcoming change.
