On February 24, 2014, the TELUS Health eClaims provider submission service across Canada is being extended to three new types of service providers: massage therapists, acupuncturists and naturopathic doctors who are registered with the TELUS Health eClaims network. The submission service is already available for physiotherapists, chiropractors and vision care providers.

How it works

Service providers registered with the TELUS Health eClaims network can submit your plan members’ health claims – right at point of sale – through a website managed by TELUS Health.

These claims are sent electronically to Sun Life, where they are quickly adjudicated. They are subject to scrutiny by Sun Life’s anti-fraud technology controls and capabilities, which provide strong claims protection and help to better protect your group benefits plan from the risk of fraud. As part of the process, both TELUS Health and Sun Life check providers’ credentials to ensure they are accredited, before accepting claims.

Advantages for plan members

This convenient process gives your plan members a fast and easy way to have claims submitted electronically. They do not have to fill out and submit paper claims forms – a greener option that illustrates Sun Life’s commitment to paperless solutions.

Plan members’ out-of-pocket expenses may be eliminated or reduced, depending on their benefits plan coverage. (If assignment of payment is not directed to the service provider, the plan member will still need to pay the provider 100% of the treatment cost up front.)

About the service

More than 19,000 service providers are registered in Canada with the TELUS Health eClaims network, which is approximately 37% of all service providers nationally. Your plan members should have convenient access to many of these providers, and can search online from a link on my Sun Life to locate those in their neighbourhood.

The number of TELUS Health e-claims grew from zero to more than 57,000 a month from July 2012 to December 2013.

Communicating with your plan members

We encourage you to tell your plan members about the expanded provider service by sharing our communication with them, as appropriate. Also included is an updated flyer that provides general information about how the TELUS Health eClaims provider submission service works.
