Claims can soon be submitted directly from healthcare service providers’ offices!  

On May 1, 2012, Sun Life announced an arrangement with TELUS Health to make the claims process for your group benefits plan members even easier.

More e-claims options

Your plan members want fast and easy service, so we are working with TELUS Health to add another paperless health claims submission solution at a number of their registered healthcare service providers’ offices and clinics. Your plan members will have multiple channels available to them for electronic claims submission – fast and easy!

Healthcare providers covered under the new service

Currently, physiotherapists, chiropractors and visioncare specialists who are registered with the TELUS Health eClaims network, can make e-claims submission on behalf of their patients. 

With almost 10,000 service providers registered in Canada with the TELUS Health eClaims network, your plan members will likely have convenient access to many of these service providers.

It all begins in Atlantic Canada!

On July 30, 2012, this new Sun Life and TELUS Health provider e-claims submission service will launch first in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador. There is a high percentage of service providers registered with TELUS Health eClaims in these provinces and, you told us that there’s an equally high demand from your plan members for this type of service.

The national Launch is next

This provider service is expected to be launched to the rest of Canada in September 2012, so please stayed tuned for more information in the coming weeks!

How it works

The physiotherapists, chiropractors and visioncare providers will be able to submit your plan members’ health claims immediately through a website managed by TELUS Health. These

claims will be sent electronically to Sun Life where they are quickly adjudicated.  This means your plan members’ out of pocket expenses could be eliminated or reduced – depending on their benefits plan.  And, they will likely know this information before they even leave their healthcare providers’ offices or clinics.

Fraud controls

Another positive aspect of having claims submitted online is that Sun Life’s fraud technology controls and capabilities on e-claims helps to provide claims pre-payment protection. This helps to better protect your group benefits plan from the risk of fraud. Our multi-million dollar technology, FastForward PlanProtect™, continuously monitors electronic claims using advanced data analytics to detect unusual claiming patterns. When suspicious patterns are identified by the technology, they are flagged for review by Sun Life’s dedicated fraud team. 

Communicate with your plan members

We encourage you to have your plan members try the new provider service – beginning with those in the Atlantic Provinces on July 30, 2012.  Then please watch for more information about the national launch in September.  We have prepared a communication about the provider submission service for you to distribute to your plan members as you feel appropriate.  We also include a flyer which provides some general information about how the provider service works and contact information if they have questions.
