On July 4, 2018, CI Institutional Asset Management announced the following personnel changes, which took effect on June 30, 2018:

  • Yoonjai Shin, Vice-President and Portfolio Manager, CI Multi-Asset Management, and lead portfolio manager for the CI LifeCycle Target Date Series (“CI Lifecycle”), left the firm to pursue an entrepreneurial venture.
  • Following Mr. Shin’s departure, Marchello Holditch, was promoted to Vice-President, CI Multi-Asset Management and lead portfolio manager on CI LifeCycle. As a result, Mr. Holditch changes roles from manager research and oversight to portfolio management.
  • Geraldo Ferreira joined CI Investments as Vice-President, CI Investment Management, replacing Mr. Holditch as head of the team responsible for manager research and oversight. Additionally, Mr. Ferreira sits on the CI Multi-Asset Management Investment Committee.

Although Mr. Shin was designated as the lead portfolio manager for CI LifeCycle, Alfred Lam, SVP & Chief Investment Officer, had retained final decision-making authority on the funds. Mr. Lam’s experience, tenure, and continuing involvement with these funds, as well as Mr. Holditch’s familiarity with the investment structure and portfolio managers, significantly reduces our concerns over the departure of Mr. Shin.

Mr. Shin was also a portfolio manager on the CI Portfolio Series target risk fund series, where Mr. Lam continues to be the lead portfolio manager. Mr. Holditch will replace Mr. Shin on the team.

There are no expected changes to the funds or to the team’s philosophy and process due to these developments.
