Introducing electronic beneficiary designations on mysunlife.ca
November 16, 2015
We are pleased to announce that plan members who have a Sun Life Financial workplace retirement savings plan will soon be able to make beneficiary changes online. Our new electronic beneficiary designation tool (e-beneficiary tool) on mysunlife.ca makes it quick and easy for plan members to name and change their beneficiary - no more paper!
The e-beneficiary tool uses a simple user interface and intuitive menus to make it easy for plan members to keep their beneficiary up-to-date. It also takes legislative and plan rules into consideration. The e-beneficiary tool addresses a key concern for plan sponsors since it helps plan members take action in the moment by providing Sun Life with missing or out-of-date beneficiary designations.
On November 30, we are making the following changes to mysunlife.ca:
- The current Beneficiary info page (located under the Quick Links drop-down menu) will be replaced with the new e-beneficiary tool. The tool will also be available during online enrolment.
- Some restrictions may apply to plan sponsors with customized beneficiary forms.
- Beneficiary changes can still be made using paper forms, and these forms will be available by calling the Customer Care Centre.
Historically, beneficiary designations have been made on paper. In light of recent changes to legislation in Alberta, and the endorsement of e-beneficiary designations by the Canadian Counsel of Insurance Regulators, Sun Life Financial has decided to accept electronic beneficiary designations on mysunlife.ca for workplace retirement savings plans as a standard service across the country. Members will still be able to designate their beneficiary on paper.
