Revised SIP&G for select BlackRock, Dynamic, Sentry and MFS funds

Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether this investment news has any implications for the investment options available within their plans. Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada purchases units of the funds listed below, which are established as segregated funds in accordance with the Insurance Companies Act (Canada).

Effective January 29, 2014, Sun Life Global Investments (SLGI) made revisions to its Statement of Investment Policies and Goals (SIP&G) for the funds outlined below which are offered on Sun Life Financial's core investment platform.

Sun Life Dynamic Equity Income


The language has been expanded to include Investment Restriction on Oil and Gas Contracts.

Investment Restriction
Each of the FundA and underlying funds will not invest more than 20% of its NAV in Oil and Gas Contracts in order to hedge the risks associated with its portfolio investments in oil and gas securities. 

Sun Life Dynamic Strategic Yield

The language has been expanded to include Eligible Investments for foreign securities.

Eligible Investments
The Fund may invest up to 100% of the underlying fund's assets in foreign securities.

Sun Life Sentry Value


The language has been expanded to include allowable limits to invest the Fund's assets in securities of other mutual funds and ETFs.

Investment Guidelines
The Fund may invest up to 10% of the Fund's assets in securities of other mutual funds, including mutual funds that may be managed by the Manager and/or an affiliate of the Manager, subject to the conditions set out in NI 81-102. In selecting these underlying funds, the Fund will use the same criteria it uses for selecting individual securities as described herein.

The Portfolio may invest up to 10% of the Fund in the following types of ETF's:  

  • Those that seek to provide daily results that replicate the daily performance of their Underlying Index;

Sun Life MFS Global Value
Sun Life MFS U.S. Growth
Sun Life MFS U.S. Value
Sun Life MFS U.S. Equity
Updated the maximum investment in a single issuer to be consistent across all funds.

Investment Guidelines
The maximum investment in any one issuer should be generally limited to 5% of the portfolio or 1½ times the benchmark weight, whichever is greater, not to exceed 9% on a market value basis at the time of purchase (this excludes government bonds).
