MFS Appoints new Co-Chief Executive Officer

MFS Investment Management (MFS) recently announced that Michael Roberge, President and Chief Investment Officer (CIO), was promoted to Co-Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2015. Mr. Roberge will share management responsibilities with Robert Manning, Chairman and CEO, while continuing to serve as CIO for MFS.

As Co-CEO Mr. Roberge will report to Mr. Manning who will continue to be involved in the day-to-day management of the company, and will continue reporting to the Sun Life Board of Directors.

In order to allow Mr. Roberge to focus on his new leadership role, MFS will transition some of his investment oversight responsibilities to two new group CIOs:

  • Kevin Beatty, Director of Equity, North America, will be promoted to CIO, Global Equity, and
  • William Adams, MFS Director of Fixed Income, will be promoted to CIO, Global Fixed Income.

Both Mr. Beatty and Mr. Adams will report to Mr. Roberge, and they will continue to serve on their respective portfolio management teams.

Background
Mr. Roberge joined MFS in 1996 has served in several roles including credit analyst, portfolio manager, research director and chief of fixed income. He was named President and CIO in January 2010.

Mr. Beatty joined MFS in 2002 and has held various positions including equity research analyst a portfolio manager, Director of Equity - North America and Director of US Research. Mr. Beatty also serves on the MFS Global Equity Management Committee.

Mr. Adams joined MFS 1997 as a corporate credit analyst, left MFS in 2005 as a portfolio manager and later re-joined the firm in 2009 as Director of High Yield Research. He's held the positions of Director of Credit Research, high yield portfolio manager and Director of Fixed Income.
