Fiera Capital (Fiera) has announced the promotion of Sylvain Roy to Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the firm effective December 2013. Jean-Guy Desjardins, former CIO, will remain as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fiera and will continue to head the firm's Asset Allocation Team. Fiera has stated that the promotion was made for succession planning reasons.

Fiera's CIO Office is comprised of three CIO roles: Equity Associate CIO, Fixed Income Associate CIO, and a CIO overseeing both Associate CIO roles. Prior to the announcement, Mr. Roy was the Equity Associate CIO at the firm, with Francois Bourdon acting as the firm's Fixed Income Associate CIO. Mr. Bourdon will continue in his current role and the firm is currently looking for a replacement for Mr. Roy's vacated role of Equity Associate CIO.

The CIO Office at Fiera serves as an oversight group to ensure the investment teams are investing based on their particular philosophies and processes. On a regular basis, the Associate CIOs, portfolio managers and the risk measurement group review and discuss positioning, sources of risk and contributors to performance.

Background
As Associate CIO, Mr. Roy participated in the strategic decisions related to the investment teams and ensured their ongoing monitoring, support, and proper allocation of resources. He also supervised all equity trading activities. Mr. Roy joined Fiera in 2004 and has 16 years of industry experience holding positions such as Senior Portfolio Manager - Quantitative Strategies and Financial Engineering at Fiera, and Vice President - Global Asset Allocation at TAL Global Asset Management. Mr. Roy graduated from the Université de Sherbrooke with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Finance. He later received a Masters in Management degree in Finance from Université de Sherbrooke as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
