MFS McLean Budden Organizational ChangesOctober 7, 2013
Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether this investment update has any implications for the investment options available within their plan. Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada purchases units of the funds listed below which are established as segregated funds in accordance with the Insurance Companies Act (Canada).
In August 2013 MFS McLean Budden (MFS MB), a subsidiary of MFS Investment Management (MFS), announced that Bruce Murray would be retiring from the firm effective December 2014. Mr. Murray is an Executive Vice President and Managing Director at MFS MB, a member of the asset allocation team and co-portfolio manager of the MFS McLean Budden Canadian Equity Growth strategy along with Nicole Zatlyn. The strategy is an underlying component of the MFS McLean Budden Canadian Core Equity and the MFS McLean Budden Balanced Growth strategies. In order to streamline Mr. Murray's transition into retirement, Dimitra Ntantoulis will join Mr. Murray and Ms. Zatlyn as a Co-Portfolio manager on the strategy effective immediately. Ms. Ntantoulis will retain her analyst responsibilities covering the consumer cyclical and staples sectors through her transition.
In late August 2013, MFS MB also announced that Susan Shuter is no longer with the firm. Ms. Shuter was an Executive Vice President and Co-Portfolio Manager of the MFS McLean Budden Canadian Equity Value strategy with Jeffrey Morrison. The MFS McLean Budden Canadian Equity Value strategy is an underlying component of the MFS McLean Budden Balanced Value strategy. David Shindler will replace Ms. Shuter and join Jeffrey Morrison on the portfolio management team of the Canadian Equity Value strategy going forward.
Additionally, Jeffrey Morrison will join Robert Spector, Peter Kotsopoulos and Bruce Murray as a member of the asset allocation team that is responsible for management of the firm's Balanced strategies, as well as the MFS McLean Budden LifePlan Target Date and Target Risk Portfolios.
Ms. Ntantoulis is a global research analyst with 15 years of industry experience based out of the MFS MB Toronto office. She joined the firm in 2006 after spending two years as a research analyst at UBS Securities. Her previous experience includes one year as a research analyst at UBS Canada where she analyzed Canadian healthcare companies, and two years at UBD New York where she covered specialty pharmaceutical and generic pharmaceutical companies.
Mr. Shindler is the Director of Research Canada and a global research analyst with the firm. He is a member of the capital goods and financial services equity research teams, based in MFS' Boston headquarters. Mr. Shindler joined the firm in 2006 full time after participating in the firm's summer MBA Internship program in 2005. From 2007 – 2009 he covered Canadian Banks as part of his research responsibilities. He transferred to MFS McLean Budden in 2011. Mr. Shindler covers North American Metals and Mining, US credit cards, US Online Brokers, US Payment companies and US Stock exchanges. His previous experience includes three years as a consultant at The Bridgespan Group and two years as an associate consultant at Bain & Company.
Mr. Morrison is an Investment Officer and international equity Portfolio Manager at MFS. He joined MFS in 2006. Prior to joining MFS, he served eight years as a Portfolio Manager for Franklin Templeton Investments in their Calgary, Toronto, and San Mateo offices. The initial two years were under Bissett Investment Management, prior to the company's acquisition by Franklin Templeton. Mr. Morrison was the lead manager on various US mandates as well as two Canadian-based core equity funds, Bissett US Equity Fund and Bissett Multinational Growth Fund.
